Classic Austrian

The Austrian String Shade has been around since 18th Century Vienna and it’s still a favorite today. This timeless shade design was introduced hundreds of years ago in Europe, and View Tech has updated it for the modern world by using hand-loomed soft, smooth swags of strings in all colors and sizes. The combination of soft strings forming festoons at the bottom in concert with thin vertical stripes woven between them makes for a stunning statement in window treatments. The strings are available in a wide variety of colors, and can be made to any width and height as required. Our Austrian String Shades can be crafted into many shapes: Square, and rectangular, as well as angles and arches of all types and sizes. For an extra touch of elegance, small tassels are applied in-between swags on the valance, and at the bottom of the shade. Transparency and sheerness are achieved by increasing the string count in the warp (vertical). 

For extra privacy we offer translucent or blackout lining, which is hand sewn to the folds of the shade. When Austrian shades are used for more modern rooms, we can weave them with swags (festoons) either wider or more shallow. Austrian Shades are made with thin acrylic rods on the back, so when folded, the sides do not sag inward. Austrian Shades can be operated either manually, or by motorized mechanism – and can be adapted to any home automation system. Strings are available from our string color selection as a single color or a mix of colors, with additional custom dyed colors. Austrian Shades can be used in both homes and commercial spaces.
